My Guitar Story

I’ve been playing the guitar since I was ten, studying in the early years with Bob Oort and Don Andrews in Sydney. I learned to read music and play classical guitar in the Segovia tradition.

In my late teens I started playing folk and country music and branched further into blues, pop and rock in my twenties. In recent years I have played a lot of jazz.

My guitars include a vintage Gibson ES-335, a Steinberger Synapse Transcale and a hand made nylon stringed acoustic guitar which is my current workhorse.

I was guitarist in the Sydney party band “Hurly Burly”, the Port Moresby based club band “The Untouchables” and the jazz combo “The Beancounters” in Hanoi. I’ve done studio work and also performed as a solo guitarist at a number of venues including the SUM Villa convention centre as resident musician. I have performed everywhere from the streets of Sydney and Brisbane to bars and clubs in PNG and five star hotels in Vietnam.

I also compose songs. My instrumental song “Maria” was awarded as the first place winner of the TS International Music Competition in 2022.

I am currently performing and giving guitar lessons in the Hobart area. I also give Zoom lessons for students located in other parts of Australia or the World.

May the Muses smile upon you.
